 # Girish karnad (19 May 1938 -10 June 2019) 

Girish Karnad was an Indian actor, film director, Kannada writer, playwright and a Rhodes Scholar, who predominantly worked in South Indian cinema and Bollywood.
                               
                   
           
                            
 His rise as a playwright in the 1960s, marked the coming of age of modern Indian playwriting in Kannada, just as Badal Sarkar did in Bengali, vijay Tenulkar in Marathi, and Mohan Rakesh in Hindi. He was a recipient of the 1998 Jnanpith Award, the highest litrary honour conferred in India.

             Girish Karnad is known as one of the biggest contributors to the sandalwood cinema. He has been composing plays for over four decades.He wsa so talented that he used to translate his own plays into English.He had written most of the films and plays in Kannada language.

          He was born on 19 May , 1938 at Matheran, Bombay presidency now in Maharashtra, India.He did his graduation in 1958 from Karnataka philosophy, politics and economics at the Oxford University from 1960 to 1963.

Let us tell you that his plays namely Yayati and Tuglaq gave him the necessary boost what he needed as a playwright. The first play that he wrote was about king Yayati and second one was Tughlaq. He continued including Hayavadana (1971) and was widely recognised as among the most important plays of post independence India.

Narendra Modi for the prime minister's post in the 2014 parliament elections. He was one of the 200 writers who put an open latter against hate politics and for " diverse and equal India" during the 2019 genral elections.

For four decades karnad composed plays, often using history and mythology to tackle contemporary issues.He translated his plays into English and received into some Indian languages and directed by directors like Ebrahim Alkazi, B.V.Karanth,Alyque padamsee.Prasanna,Arvind Gaur, Satyadev Dubey,Vijaya Mehta, Shyamanand Jalan, Amal Allana and Zafer Mohiuddin.




With a tube in his nose, he wore a placared saying "Me Too Urban Naxal " at the first death anniversary of slain Journalist Gauri Lankesh.Due to his view againsts Hindutva, his name was on the hit list of a right wing group which allegedly short Gauri Lankesh.
